Louise Martin Klaucke Award (Sustainers)

Every year since 2000, the Junior League of DeKalb County has honored a Sustainer for her unselfish service to the community with the Dr. Louise Martin Klaucke Award.  An employee of the CDC and member of JLD, Dr. Klaucke and her husband were dedicated to helping others and moved to Kenya, with their three adopted children, to aid in controlling an outbreak of Rift Valley Fever.  Her thirst for adventure and love for people and animals was apparent during her time abroad where she even volunteered at an elephant orphanage.  Dr. Klaucke suffered an untimely death in a terrorist attack on the American Embassy in Nairobi, and was truly the epitome of a servant leader.

Spirit of the League Award (Provisionals)

Each year, JLD invites potential members to join its Provisional Class.  During Provisional Training, women learn about the history of the Junior League and the Junior League of DeKalb County.  Provisionals also participate in community service projects, attend monthly training meetings, and assist with JLD programs and events.  The Spirit of the League Award is awarded to the Provisional who displays a passion for service, a love of the League's mission, and a desire to become a leader in JLD and the community.

Chandani Algeo Shining Star Award

In July 2018, JLD Member Chandani Algeo was killed in a car accident when she and her family were traveling to Florida for vacation.  Chandani had not been a JLD Member for long but, during her too short tenure, she was a shining star.  Chandani took on difficult projects and tackled them with a smile.  She had a positive attitude and never gave up.  Chandani was funny, kind, and courageous.  She was a Wonder Woman.  In May 2019, we awarded our first Chandani Algeo Shining Star Award to a member who exemplified Chandani's spirit of strength, community service, and compassion.
